"Boxing in the Postal Service, notably among our London Messengers, is very popular indeed and one of the causes of this popularity is the fact that we have several outstanding contenders, one of whom is Arthur Munro, Sorter, Western District Office aged 24…"

Len Hall, The Post, 10 August 1935.

Arthur Munro had boxed all the leading men at his weight between 1929 and 1935 up and down the country. He had been tutored by Tom Stroud, an office mate. In 1931 and 1932 Munro won the divisional championship, but in 1933 lost to Pat Palmer who went on to become the leading flyweight in the paid ranks. In 1935, he boxed at the Albert Hall against F W Ryan, losing narrowly.

There were several Boxing champions in the Postal Service such as Frank Meachem of the Post Office Stores and F Brooman, a Post Office Engineer, but only Munro was the product of the Civil Service Sports Club.
