Big Draw logoThe BPMA took part in the Campaign for Drawings Big Draw again on 23 October 2007 with our workshop Myself on a Stamp. We worked with artist and illustrator Paul Jackson to encourage children to create their own abstract self portraits to be displayed on stamps. These self portraits took inspiration from Arnold Machin’s iconic portrait of The Queen used on stamps today. You can see a slideshow of the finished stamp designs by clicking on the thumbnails below.

The activity

Have you ever drawn a self portrait from memory or with the wrong hand? Tried to sketch yourself while blindfolded or done a drawing without taking the pencil off the paper? The 19 children and adults who took part in the Big Draw explored different drawing techniques to create portraits of themselves. They then cut these up to create abstract self portraits on a stamp template through collage.
