A special request was made for the album following an article published in Stamp Magazine a few years ago that explained that the BPMA owned the album. This generated a huge amount of interest among readers.
Zoe Lewis, Access & Learning Manager at The British Postal Museum & Archive, will be taking the album to the fair which will form part of a small display. This will include exhibition graphics about Freddie Mercury, his album and also other famous people who either collect or have appeared on stamps.
Freddie’s album is still on the black album pages in the way that he arranged them when he was between the ages of 9 and 12. The BPMA have housed each page in melinex to ensure their protection. The stamps in the album come from a wide range of countries across the world. Many, although by no means all, are from the British Empire. The collection contains some stamps from Zanzibar which is where Freddie Mercury was born.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of Sberatel, the international collectors fair which is the biggest meeting for collectors in Central and Eastern Europe. Last year they attracted 14,000 visitors.
