Last Post: Remembering the First World War is a Heritage Lottery Fund project and a partnership between The British Postal Museum & Archive (BPMA) and the City of Westminster Archives Centre (WCA).
HLF awarded the BPMA, the lead partner of the project, a grant of approximately £47,000 for this project. This has resulted in the production of two education packs and associated outreach sessions, a future 2008 exhibition and other related events on the theme of the post in the First World War.
Last Post aims to make original archive material accessible to children at Key Stages 1-4 and to provide high quality teaching resources on the themes of remembrance and the First World War.
Two education packs – both available free to teachers – have been produced which support teaching of Citizenship, Literacy and Remembrance at Primary and Secondary schools. The Primary pack focuses on Literacy and Remembrance and the Secondary pack covers Literacy through History and Citizenship.
Tony Conder, Chief Executive of the BPMA said: “The Last Post project offers a wonderful opportunity to increase access to rarely-seen material in new and exciting ways. The Heritage Lottery Fund has allowed us to shine a light on unexpected connections in the history cared for by the BPMA and WCA. We know that this subject matter is as relevant now as at any time in the last 90 years.”
