Hear this page read aloud
The Wiki will be mentioned, alongside other museum wikis in a workshop led by Jonathan Bowen called Wiki Software and Facilities for Museums. The Wiki now has an entry on the Museums Wiki which Jonathan Bowen will use in the workshop.
About the conference
The Museums and the Web Conference is held every year somewhere in north america.
The conference discusses ways in which museums can benefit from using the web.
Wiki progress
In January we announced the launch of the BPMA Wiki. The Wiki is now beginning to grow gradually. The following pages have been created in the last month:
- COLIN'S TIME WORKING FOR ROYAL MAIL (an entry in the Working for the Post Office section)
- Wartime letters
- TPO abbreviation explained (an entry in the Postal History section)
- TPO and Postal History (an entry in the Postal History section)
- Leonard Looseley (an entry in the Family History section)
- Philatelic glossary (extensive work has already gone into this glossary, but we think it could still be improved. We'd like your help in improving it.)
3 things to remember about the Wiki
- The Wiki is an area of our website where users can create their own
content and edit/add to what other people have written.
- The Wiki provides
an opportunity for our website users to work together to create an informative
and interesting resource that reflects their vast knowledge and experience of
the history of the postal service.
- The wiki centres around people's sharing their knowledge and experiences about working for the postal service, family history, the significance of wartime letters, Post Office war memorials, postal history and philately
It is also important to remember that you don't have to create your own content at first. It's just as useful to correct information, or even just typos on other people's entries. As the Wiki grows, we will need you all to keep your eyes open for mistakes so we that together we can make sure that it continues to be a useful and interesting resource.
