In February and March 2007, the BPMA worked with 18 frontline Royal Mail staff. The volunteers produced a photographic exhibition about life in Mount Pleasant sorting office in central London. Images from our archive showed the participants what has changed over the last 120 years...and what has stayed the same.

Royal Mail currently employs over 180,000 staff nationwide, from managers to postmen to mail sorters. Mount Pleasant has one of the most diverse working communities in the country.

An important element of the project is that it captures a contemporary snapshot of the current Royal Mail workforce. This is a vital part of our work as a museum and an archive, keeping a permanent record of society today for future generations to enjoy.

Either individually, or in pairs, the volunteers chose a topic and captured images from within Mount Pleasant that explored that subject. Hundreds of photos were taken. This exhibition shows a selection of the fantastic photographs that have been produced.
