Ironbridge

These resources are designed to be used to support school visits to Blists Hill Victorian Town at Ironbridge Gorge Museum’s Trust. The worksheets make reference to material found in the BPMA's permanent exhibition at Blists Hill, The Museum of the Post Office in the Community, as well as archive material from the BPMA collection.

The sheets are aimed at Key Stages 1 and 2, and linked to the Key Stage 2 History curriculum and study of the Victorians.

Pre Visit Activity: Letter Writing before Penny Post

This worksheet introduces students to the idea of Penny Post and how people wrote letters before and after the introduction of pre paid postage. There is an example of early letter writing and several group activities to help students explore the topic.

Rules and Rewards: Letter Carriers

This exercise introduces students to working with a simple document from Victorian times, rules involved in certain jobs, and their place in society. After studying the document and following the activities to build up a character for hot-seating, the class will create their own rules for the visit to Blists Hill.
