Item from the handling collection

In 2006, the BPMA received a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund to undertake a project called Last Post: Remembering the First World War in partnership with the City of Westminster Archives.

The project supported the exhibition of the same name, and aimed to make original archive material related to the Post Office's involvement in the First World War accessible to school children at Key Stages 1 to 4, and link to relevant areas of the national curriculum.

This was done through production of two high quality learning packs – one for primary schools, and one for secondary.

The project also involved BPMA Learning Officers visiting schools and community groups, and running sessions with objects from the handling collection and activities from the learning packs.

To find out more about the project, read the full Last Post Project Report (PDF, 1.8MB).
