Collage of images of stamps, sculptor Arnold Machin, a child's profile and a child's stamp designThe word Philately comes from the Greek words philos (friend) and ateleia (freedom from charges, in this case a prepaid postage stamp), so it basically means friend or lover of stamps. At the BPMA we LOVE stamps, and we'd like to introduce these fantastic little works of art to a whole new audience.

At our first ever Philatelic Fun Day, children will be able to join in with a whole range of stamp related activities. They will find out about stamp history, and have a go at designing and displaying commemorative stamps. They can even model their own version of the Machin Head and photograph it to see themselves on their own personal stamp, the finished results will all be displayed in our website gallery after the event.

There'll also be practical advice about starting or looking after a stamp collection, and any visitors who already have a collection will be able to show it to one of our friendly stamp experts.

We'll be showing films about stamp design, holding a small exhibition and having lots of fun.

Our young visitors will also get a goody bag to take home.
