Have you noticed a War Memorial in your local Post Office? Please help us compile our database of Post Office War Memorials.
This part of the BPMA website is a Wiki. This means that users can create their own content and add to/edit other people’s pages.
Post Office War Memorials
Both at the end of the First and Second World Wars, as a reflection of remembrance and gratitude, war memorials were erected all over the country. Many of these memorial were paid for and erected by public subscription.
The Post Office today remains the second largest custodian of war memorials in Britain, behind only the Church of England. This is a measure of the heavy involvement by the Post Office in the war, and a reflection of the number of lives lost amongst postal workers both at home and abroad.
The BPMA is currently helping Royal Mail build a database recording details of each memorial on Royal Mail premises. With Post Office closures many are naturally concerned as to the fate of memorials in offices known to them, happily Royal Mail are being very careful to ensure all memorials are treated with the respect they deserve and ensuring they are moved to nearby sites.
If you are aware of a memorial in a Post Office building that you want to ensure is included on the database do please let the BPMA know. An ideal way to do this would be through creating a page about your memorial on this wiki by following the instructions below. Alternatively you can let us know the location by emailing memorials@postalheritage.org.uk

3. Use the Wiki help page to help with editing, formatting, inserting images, creating links etc
4. When you have finished, make a note of the web address of your page and don't forget to link to it from this page so that others can see it.
